Our Founders Bishop Casper Cohens, Sr. D. Min.
and Mother Jessie L. Cohens
Bishop Casper Cohens, Sr. D. Min. and Mother Jessie L. Cohens founded and established Emmanuel Apostolic Faith Church on Saturday, March 10, 1984. As the Founders of Emmanuel Apostolic Faith Church they dedicated their lives to teaching and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and serving the people of God. Bishop Cohens baptized many souls in Jesus name, and saw many spiritual sons and daughters receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Bishop & Mother Cohens started their spiritual journey in 1959 under the tutelage of Bishop W. H. Davis and Mother Mary Davis at Greater St. James Temple in Inman, SC. They were baptized in Jesus name and filled with God's precious Holy Ghost, and they lived a life of holiness and sanctification before the Lord. They were faithful in serving God's people many years before they founded Emmanuel. After founding Emmanuel Bishop Casper Cohens, Sr. & Mother Jessie L. Cohens were beacons of light to everyone who met them. In 1984, Bishop & Mother Cohens became members of the Apostolic Assemblies of Christ, Inc., under the leadership of Bishop G. M. & Mother Mae Dee Boone. What a great and spiritually enriching time Bishop, Mother, and the Emmanuel family had under their leadership! Bishop Cohens flourished and was elevated to District Elder, Suffragan Bishop, and Bishop under Bishop Boones leadership. Mother Jessie Cohens/a virtuous woman loved God, His people, and her family and served in many capacities in the church and was also active on a state and national level. At Emmanuel she served as Sunday school Superintendent, and Choir President, and worked in many other capacities. She was one of the greatest seamstress & cooks on this side of heaven! Her husband, children, and many saints enjoyed her wonderful, delicious meals, and the garments she made for neighbors, and church members were done with excellence! Bishop & Mother Cohens were indeed a powerful couple who worked together in ministry bringing many souls to Christ, feeding the hungry and clothing those who were in need. The teaching from the word of God that they shared caused many lives to be changed for the better. Bishop Casper Cohens, Sr. D. Min. went home to be with the Lord on the morning of June 26, 2014 after pastoring for 28 years. We will always remember him with a Continuous Salute for his faithfulness to God and God's people, and his love and dedication to his family. We will always honor him, and his legacy will live on and on. After Bishop went to be with Jesus, Mother Jessie L. Cohens persevered and continued to be a faithful and dedicated member of Emmanuel under the leadership of her son-in-law, Bishop Johnny L. Davis and Lady Evelyn. Mother was a light to everyone, and continued to provide love and strength to her family and church family. She was with us for almost 10 years after Bishop Cohens went to sleep in Jesus, and we enjoyed her presence immensely! Mother Jessie L. Cohens went home to be with the Lord on February 23, 2024. Her presence is greatly missed. Bishop Cohens and Mother Cohens' memory lives on in the hearts of their Emmanuel Church Family and their biological children, Casper Cohens Jr.,(Patricia), Leola Cohens, Magdalene Irby, (Richard), Cathrine Donaldson, Bishop Arthur Cohens, (Evangelist Martha), Lady Evelyn Davis,(Bishop Johnny L.), Min. Deloris Cohens, Michael Cohens, Min. Juanita Cohens, Jasper Cohens Sr., (Evelyn), Jeffrey Cohens, Min. Linda Harrison (James), and Dennis Cohens. Our Founding Father and Mother have joined that great cloud of witnesses, and their works do follow them. They have fought a good fight, they finished their courses, and they both kept the faith... II Timothy 4:7. They are now resting from their labor in the arms of Jesus to receive their crown of righteousness that is laid up for them and everyone who loves His appearing.
